jmce_999 wrote:Hi Oliver, I have a feature request that is not currently provided in v1.8.4.
- Search/change a Pivot Table Range Reference (found in step 2 of pivot table/chart wizard, "Where is the data that use want to use?", where range is an external UNC or drive mapped reference to data file)
Is this possible in ReplaceMagic? I have just been able to test this feature and it does not appear to work. The data reference is found in: PivotTable and PivotChart Wizard - Step 2 of 3 Where is the data that you want to use? Range: [<microsoft office excel list or database e.g. \\server\share\workbook...>] In your reply you mentioned this had been added/fixed, how did you test? Thanks, Jim

We worked with external reference to Excel file (pivot table source). I will check how this will work with first option in wizard and make appropriate changes.
Best regards, Oliver

As in other thread - version 2.0.0 will be published during this week.
One more question concerening "Multidimensional Connection" - beside clicking on Cancel can you close this window using keyboard (pressing Escape, Enter,...)?
Thanks, Oliver

Hi Oliver, when can I get a working copy that handles the pivot table references?
Thanks Jim

Hi Jim, can you download new RM version (download link is http://www.replacemagic.com/downloads.aspx). Changes in pivot tables when they are created with "Microsoft Excel list or database" should work :-). Best regards, Oliver Oliver ReplaceMagic Support

Btw. find&replace will work only if on new location you already have a file. Is file name same or different compared to original file name does not make any difference. It will work in both cases. To use it please select that you want to make changes in "Text" part of documents and not hyperlinks like before.

Thanks Oliver, I downloaded the Excel PRO version - {7D5275F5-E901-40CB-9631-B955C7E3F891}
Is this the correct MSI?

Yes, this MSI has to work with your license. Just install it in same folder where your current installation is.
In case of any problems please let me know.
Thanks, Oliver

Hi Oliver, range references are now updated. Observation, row/columns/items fields need to be dragged to table layout to re-establish connection to data.

Hi Jim,
this is really strange. During all my tests I never lost any reference. I made replacements and opened document where RM made changes and all row and column elements were there.
Did you run RM on some test files? If yes can you send them to me?
Thanks, Oliver

Zipping files/folders and sending to your support mailbox.
I run the following find/replace strings from 'Search & Replace' with Text checkbox set:
Find - \subfolder1\[data for pivot table - 1.xls] Replace - \subfolder2\[data for pivot table - 1.xls]
You may also want to look at code for "Replace Preview" mode, even with this checked the change to the source file is made.

Hi Jim,
We checked your files and basically this behavior is something on Microsoft side. If you open your master file in Excel and change link to source for pivot (over standard Excel wizard) Excel will loose all columns and rows.
RM and Excel can keep them only in case when you move one file to some other location but pivot source table is the same like before (same structure and same values).
We will try to see is there anything what we can do but for now I can say that Excel does not support that kind of changes.

Hi Oliver, I figured as much re. MS issue within pivot table references. I was more curious to find out how managed to added this feature into RM and tested the Pivot Table wizard method AND still managed to get the find/replace to work without any data reference issue.
So run it by me again what has been included in the file link you sent on Friday?
Thanks Jim

Hi Jim,
only way how we manage to have this functionality to work was if same files was on other location also.
MasterPivto.xls folder1\source.xls
new folder
folder2\source.xls (100% same file like in folder1).
When we changed single number in source file complete structure in pivot table was lost (same thing happens when you do that directly over Excel).
For now I can say that we do not have solution for this.
Best regards, Oliver

OK, thanks for explaining your test process. With regards to the patch you sent me to fix the 'Run in preview mode' issue, the attachment was stripped by exchange. Maybe if it was incorporated in say, v2.0.1, I can simply download it from your download site.

Sure, you can download it from site. I first sent patch and later placed full version on site.

Thanks Oliver. Will do.
Do you update the version level, eg. change minor or build number or will this still be under 2.0.0?
I have been using the MSI GUID to distinguish the various versions you have released over the past few weeks. This version is {001E3943-A9EB-40A6-A418-CB910EDE9C78}?
