Hi Oliver, I have a feature request that is not currently provided in v1.8.4.

- Search/change a Pivot Table Range Reference
(found in step 2 of pivot table/chart wizard, "Where is the data that use want to use?", where range is an
external UNC or drive mapped reference to data file)

Is this possible in ReplaceMagic?

Hi Jim,

for now it is not possible to change anything in pivot tables part.

If you just want to change UNC path I think that.
Range will be tricky because that what you select is not that what is used like a range reference (for example you select A1:C3 and in pivot part is stored something like R10C3:R12H14).

Let me know is this what you want.

Thanks,
Oliver

Just the UNC part as this would be the only part affected by a file or folder move. At least I think this would be the only affected part, the cell reference would stay intact, right?

If you do not change positionof referenced table then only UNC path will be affected.
We will try to integrate this until Monday.

Oliver

P.S. Thanks for new feature (that we forgot to include) :)

Hi Jim,

I sent email with location of application where this feature is integrated.
Of course, when we officially publish new version of ReplaceMagic pivot feature will be included.

Best regards,
Oliver

Future enhancement for consideration...

...allow multiple password entries to be placed into Application Configuration options. Useful for processing many workbooks or individual sheets where the password necessary to read and/or modify is not always the same for each workbook or sheet.

Future enhancement for consideration...

Ability to restrict the files that will be searched/updated, based on timestamp e.g. modified within last 3, 6, 12 months.

Hi Jim,

thanks for idea.
I will see what we can do but it will probably take some time (5-10 working days) until we do not finish next version.

Best regards,
Oliver

Hi Jim,

we just published new version where you can set date and ReplaceMagic will not include files older that this date.
Btw. date used to filter is last modification date.

Version is 2.0.3; download location is same like always.

Best regards,
Oliver

Thanks Oliver for the update. I've downloaded the new version and will give it a try today.

Have you given any more thought to maybe incorporating a multiple R/O & R/W password lookup. One thing I found during some recent work with the app was that end users frequently use different passwords (if only slight variations on the same basic word) but cannot always be specific to which is used where esp. when asked to provide feedback on 100's or 1000's of workbooks. The response is usually, "try one of the following passwords..."

The ability to list within the DAT file, multiple passwords for "PasswordUnprotect=" & "PasswordOpen=" would be very useful, for example comma separated list.

Thanks
Jim

Hi,

we will see to extend ReplaceMagic to support multiple passwords in next version.
I hope that new version will be ready in 1-2 weeks.

Oliver

Hi Jim,

we were a little bit faster then planned :-).

I just published new version of ReplaceMagic (2.0.5) which supports multiple passwords for locked files for Word and Excel.

When you download application (www.replacemagic.com/downloads.aspx) please check help file with description how to use new feature (press F1 in ReplaceMagic).

ReplaceMagic can unlock files which were locked over Tools => Options => Security in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Best regards,
Oliver

Hi Oliver, I have another question, maybe a feature/enhancement request.

I would like to automate the process of searching multiple directories across multiple systems for the presence of VBA macro code in Excel docs. I figured your app would be perfect if it could be incorporated into a script. Is it currently possible to call RM from the commandline with parameters? Run from a script that I can deploy/schedule to dump the results e.g. file name & location containing code, to a file. If not, would this be possible in a future release?

Jim

Hi Jim,

currently we do not support option to run RM from command line.

This feature is on our list of "nice to have" features but I am not sure when and how we can include it because change of RM to support it will be big. RM architecture is not very open for command line.

Any way, I will not say that we will not try to change RM but I am a little bit reserved because we are aware of all possible problems that it can cause.

Sorry that I can not help more (for now).

Best regards,
Oliver
