• UNC paths — for example \\CorpServer\Finance\Reports\2024\Q4.xlsx, used on file servers and older SharePoint environments accessed via WebDAV or mapped drives
• Local drive paths — for example C:\Users\jsmith\Documents\Project\spec.docx, common in departmental file shares and legacy document management systems
• SharePoint URLs — for example https://intranet.company.com/sites/Projects/Shared%20Documents/spec.docx or https://company.sharepoint.com/sites/Projects/Shared%20Documents/spec.docx

When a migration changes the storage location — and every migration does — the path embedded in each link is no longer valid. The document on the other end of the link has moved, but the pointer inside your file has not been updated. The only way to fix this at scale is a tool that reads the binary format of each document, locates every link reference, applies the correct path transformation, and writes the corrected file back to storage.
