What breaks Office document links during migration?

Paths, host names, SharePoint URLs, item identities and folder depth can change while the reference stored inside the document remains unchanged.

What do migration tools do, and what remains afterward?

Migration platforms move content and report migration status. Embedded hyperlinks, OLE references, fields, external workbook links and data-source paths may still require document-level inventory, replacement and validation.

When is manual review required?

Review protected or damaged files, ambiguous source-to-target mappings, deleted targets, unsupported reference types and any low-confidence rule before production changes.
