Fix Office Document Links After an AvePoint Migration

After AvePoint moves the selected content, ReplaceMagic can provide a separate inventory, repair and verification pass for supported references embedded inside Office files.

Independent products: ReplaceMagic is not affiliated with, endorsed by or integrated into AvePoint or FLY. Confirm current AvePoint behavior in its official documentation and validate the combined workflow in a pilot.

Post-migration link-repair workflow

  1. Keep the final source-to-target mapping and AvePoint job reports.
  2. Scan representative source documents before cutover when ID-based links must be resolved.
  3. Scan the migrated pilot and group findings by reference type and old location.
  4. Create, review and test replacement patterns on document copies.
  5. Repair approved batches, rescan them and compare the results with the baseline.

Common dependencies to include in the pilot

Include Word files with hyperlinks and OLE objects, Excel workbooks with external formulas or data connections, and documents containing old SharePoint domains, server names, UNC paths, mapped drives or renamed folder structures. Protected, unsupported or damaged files should be reported and handled separately.

Pre-cutover requirement for ID-based links

Tenant-specific SharePoint DocIDs and similar identifiers may not be repairable from a simple domain replacement. Analyze these while the source remains available and review the tenant-to-tenant guide.
